New Delhi/Washington, 29 August (H.S.): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has invited global investors to establish manufacturing bases as well as technology and innovation centres in India, urging them to leverage the country’s talent and opportunities to build products and solutions for global markets.
The Finance Minister’s Office said in a post on X on Saturday that Sitharaman made the remarks while addressing a high-level business roundtable with leading investors and business leaders in Chicago on Friday. During her address, the Finance Minister highlighted India’s broad-based economic growth, the pace of reforms and the expanding opportunities for long-term investment in the country.
Sitharaman invited global investors to set up manufacturing facilities, technology hubs and innovation centres in India and urged them to harness the country’s talent pool and opportunities to manufacture for the world.
The roundtable was jointly organised in Chicago by the Consulate General of India and the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF). The central theme of the meeting was “Make in India — For India and the World”, with discussions focusing on investment opportunities across sectors including manufacturing, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies, financial services, infrastructure, food processing, defence and advanced technologies.
During her address, Sitharaman emphasised that the investment proposition offered by India was not confined to any single sector. Instead, she said, it was underpinned by the combination of large-scale economic growth achieved over the past decade, a vast talent pool, expanding infrastructure, technological advancement and a sustained programme of reforms.
Addressing investors on the theme of “Why India, Why Now”, the Finance Minister highlighted several factors making India an attractive destination for long-term investment, including strong domestic demand, investment-led growth, macroeconomic resilience, a large pool of skilled talent and rapidly expanding digital and physical infrastructure.
She said that as global companies reassess their supply chains and capital allocation strategies, India was emerging not merely as a large consumer market but also as an increasingly important platform for long-term investment, manufacturing and business operations.
Sitharaman also highlighted the transformation taking place across multiple sectors of the Indian economy, underlining the expanding opportunities available to global businesses and investors as India continues to strengthen its manufacturing, technological and infrastructure capabilities.
