Kamrup (Assam), 29 August (HS): The Hajo-Sualkuchi Block Congress on Saturday organised a protest march in Hajo as part of the statewide agitation launched by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee against the proposed reduction of the eco-sensitive zone around Kaziranga National Park.
The march began from Satdala Chowk and culminated at the Hajo Revenue Circle office premises. Congress workers raised slogans such as “Save Kaziranga”, “Save the Environment” and “Development is needed, but not at the cost of destroying nature”.
Addressing the gathering, Congress leader Bhavesh Das said the proposal to reduce the eco-sensitive zone from 10 km to 1 km could adversely affect the biodiversity of Kaziranga National Park.
Das alleged that the government’s “hasty decision” would pose a serious threat to wildlife and biodiversity and could push the entire ecosystem towards a crisis.----------
