Bengaluru, 29 August (H.S.): The number of Karnataka residents reported stranded or missing following devastating flash floods in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) has increased to 28, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) said on August 29.

According to information compiled by the SEOC as of 10 a.m., 23 of those affected are from Bengaluru Urban district, two from Mysuru, and one each from Dharwad, Udupi and Vijayanagara districts.

Most of them are believed to have been in Timure in Nepal's Rasuwa district when the floods struck. A few others were reportedly in Darchen in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Officials said four of the 28 people had been confirmed safe and were travelling towards Nepal. Efforts are continuing to trace the remaining 24 and establish contact with them.

The floods along the Nepal-Tibet border and surrounding regions have claimed lives and caused extensive damage to roads and other critical infrastructure, severely disrupting connectivity and movement.

The Karnataka government said it was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating rescue and tracing operations with the Ministry of External Affairs and Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Infosys Public Services CEO Lax Gopisetty, who was visiting Nepal in a personal capacity, has remained unreachable since the floods, the company said.

Infosys said Gopisetty's safety and well-being were its immediate priorities. The company is working with the relevant authorities and agencies to determine his whereabouts and restore communication.

It is also maintaining close contact with his family and providing necessary assistance.
