Guwahati, 28 August (HS): Torrential rain on Friday morning caused severe waterlogging in the Jorabat Tiniali area of Guwahati, bringing traffic on National Highways 27 and 6 to a complete standstill. An SDRF team reached the spot to assist in relief and rescue operations.

Four to five feet of water accumulated beneath the Jorabat Flyover, disrupting vehicular movement in the area. Residents living along the roadside also faced difficulties in leaving their homes.

According to local residents, alleged illegal hill-cutting in Meghalaya causes red soil and rainwater to flow directly onto the highway, leading to severe waterlogging even after brief spells of rain.

Apart from Jorabat, heavy waterlogging was also reported along NH-27 in the 11 Mile, 10 Mile, 9 Mile and 8 Mile areas. The situation caused considerable inconvenience to motorists and commuters travelling along the highway.----------
