New Delhi, 28 August (H.S.): After declining for two consecutive sessions, the domestic equity market opened on a positive note on Friday, the last trading day of the week and Raksha Bandhan, with both key benchmark indices—the Sensex and Nifty—trading higher in early deals.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex gained 297.01 points, or 0.38 per cent, to reach 77,230.60. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty advanced 60.25 points, or 0.25 per cent, to trade at 24,151.10.

Among the 30 Sensex constituents, shares of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Titan and Power Grid were among the notable gainers. UltraTech Cement, ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra and State Bank of India featured among the laggards.

The stock market had closed in negative territory on Thursday. The Sensex declined 539.35 points to settle at 76,933.59, while the Nifty fell 116.90 points to close at 24,090.85.
