
New Delhi, 28 August (H.S.):
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of an incident at Malda Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal, where around 60 newborn babies were reportedly found to have died during the first three weeks of this month. The Commission has issued a notice to the state Chief Secretary, seeking a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.
According to media reports, 10 newborn babies reportedly died at the hospital in a single day. Of the 60 newborns, 44 had been transferred from other medical facilities after their health condition deteriorated.
