New Delhi, 28 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday highlighted the unprecedented expansion and transformative impact of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) over the past 12 years.

Taking to X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Unprecedented scale and transformative outcomes! Jan Dhan Yojana has had an unprecedented impact, playing a crucial role in promoting financial inclusion and empowering people across the country.”

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is a national financial inclusion mission of the Central Government, launched on August 28, 2014. Under the scheme, more than 59 crore bank accounts have been opened so far, with total deposits in these accounts amounting to Rs 3.17 lakh crore.

The scheme aims to provide banking facilities to every household across the country and ensure that every family has access to a bank account. It has emerged as a key initiative for expanding access to formal banking services and strengthening financial inclusion across India.
