Prayagraj, 28 Aug (HS): Central Hospital, North Central

Railway (NCR), Prayagraj, has achieved a major surgical milestone by

successfully performing its first-ever sutureless intestinal reconnection using

modern Circular Stapler technology. The complex four-hour procedure, an

End-to-End Colorectal Anastomosis, was performed on August 24, 2026, on

31-year-old Mamta Maurya, who had been forced to pass stool through an

abdominal stoma for over three months. This advanced stapler method restored

normal intestinal continuity without the use of traditional sutures, allowing

the patient to successfully pass stool through the natural route on August 27,

2026.

The patient is currently stable and preparing for discharge.

The operation was jointly led by Dr. Shabi Ahmad, former Surgery Head at MLN

Medical College and Honorary Visiting Consultant Surgeon, alongside Dr. Sanjay

Kumar, Senior Railway Surgeon at Central Hospital.

The team was supported by

House Surgeon Dr. Saurabh Kumar Maurya, Senior Anesthetist Dr. Alok Kumar

Yadav, and a dedicated nursing and OT staff including Chief Nursing

Superintendent Manju Sonkar, Senior Nursing Superintendent Harish Kumar Sharma,

Nursing Superintendent Anshika, Dresser Aarti Prasad, and medical assistants

Amit Shukla, Manmohan, Moolchand, Rekha, and Rajendra Tiwari. Medical Director

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Handu and Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Surendra Nath

commended the team for this landmark achievement, which enhances in-house specialized

care for railway beneficiaries, reduces external corporate referrals, lowers

medical expenditure, and showcases Dr. Sanjay Kumar’s ongoing dedication to

expanding advanced surgical services.
