Malappuram, 27 August (H.S.):Melattur police have registered a case against a poultry farm owner after two brothers were electrocuted by an illegally installed electric fence at Akkaparamba near Vettathur.

The victims were identified as Sahir Navas, 36, and his brother Mohammed Fazil Murshid, 32, sons of Pattikadan Hamsa of Ezuthalayil in Vettathur. The case was registered against Sameer, the owner of the poultry farm around which the live fence had been erected.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when the brothers, who were delivering poultry feed, were walking towards a farm on a hill. After unloading feed at one poultry unit, they took a shortcut to reach the next farm. The lorry proceeded along a longer route around the area.

While walking through the shortcut, Fazil Murshid accidentally came into contact with the electrified iron wire and suffered an electric shock. Sahir Navas rushed to rescue his brother but was also electrocuted after attempting to help him. Both brothers died in the incident.

According to police, the makeshift fence had been constructed using areca palm trunks and iron wires. It was allegedly electrified to prevent stray animals, particularly dogs, from entering the poultry farm. Dogs reportedly frequented the area in search of poultry waste dumped near the farm.

Police said the electric fence had been installed without permission and in violation of safety regulations. Legal action was initiated against the farm owner for allegedly creating a hazardous structure that resulted in the deaths of the two brothers.

Following the tragedy, officers from Melattur police station and officials of the Kerala State Electricity Board inspected the accident site. They examined the fencing and the electricity connection used to power it. Further investigation is under way to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and whether others were involved in installing the illegal fence.
