Kannada superstar Yash’s much-awaited film ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ has made a spectacular start at the box office immediately after its release. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the action thriller crossed the Rs 100 crore mark on its opening day. Interestingly, the film has received a mixed response from both critics and audiences. While several viewers have expressed disappointment with its storyline, screenplay and direction, the criticism appears to have had little impact on its box-office performance.

According to early figures reported by Sacnilk, ‘Toxic’ registered a net collection of Rs 101.10 crore on its first day. The film received its biggest boost from the Hindi-speaking market, where it earned Rs 55 crore. It collected Rs 23.30 crore in Kannada, Rs 16 crore in Telugu, Rs 5.50 crore in Tamil and Rs 1.30 crore in Malayalam.

The film was screened across 24,579 shows on its opening day and recorded a gross domestic collection of Rs 120.75 crore. Its worldwide gross collection has been reported at Rs 140.75 crore.

With its impressive opening, ‘Toxic’ has surpassed the first-day collections of several major films, including ‘Pathaan’ (Rs 57 crore), ‘Jawan’ (Rs 75 crore), ‘Animal’ (Rs 63.80 crore) and ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ (Rs 95.30 crore).

However, Yash’s latest release fell short of surpassing the opening-day record of his own blockbuster ‘KGF: Chapter 2’, which earned Rs 116 crore. ‘Toxic’ also narrowly missed the Rs 102.55 crore opening-day collection recorded by Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar 2’.

The film features Yash in the lead role, alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth in prominent roles.
