New Delhi, 27 August (H.S.): The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating floods in Nepal’s northern border regions and announced plans to extend relief assistance to those affected by the disaster.

The VHP conveyed its profound condolences over the heavy loss of life and property caused by the massive surge in the Bhote Koshi River following the natural disaster along the Tibet-Nepal border. The Parishad, along with the wider Hindu community, said it stands firmly with the people of Nepal, bereaved families and communities affected by the catastrophe during this difficult hour.

The VHP also expressed concern over the threat faced by pilgrims travelling to Kailash Mansarovar following the disaster.

The Parishad said that, in addition to the various forms of assistance being provided by the Central Government, it would mobilise relief materials and financial contributions from Indian society and ensure that these are delivered to people in the affected areas.

The VHP said its relief efforts would focus on extending support to those who have suffered losses and are in need of immediate assistance following the floods.

The disaster has caused widespread devastation in Rasuwa and adjoining areas of Nepal after the Bhote Koshi River suddenly swelled on Wednesday morning. At least 157 people have been killed so far, while nearly 700 others remain missing.
