Port of Spain, 27 August (H.S.): Powered by a spectacular unbeaten century from Tim Seifert and a devastating spell from captain Roston Chase, St Lucia Kings defeated Trinbago Knight Riders by 36 runs in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on Wednesday, local time, reclaiming the top position in the points table.

Batting first, St Lucia Kings posted a formidable 211 for four in their allotted 20 overs. It was their second 200-plus total of the tournament. Seifert produced a magnificent unbeaten 105 off 61 balls, while Kamill Pooran provided the side with a brisk start, scoring 25 off 17 deliveries. The pair put on 60 runs for the opening wicket from 34 balls.

John Campbell contributed 27 off 17 balls and shared a 75-run partnership with Seifert off 38 deliveries. Charith Asalanka also played a useful 33 off 21 balls. Seifert brought up his century in the final over, reaching the milestone from 57 balls.

Chasing a target of 212, Trinbago Knight Riders suffered a major setback in the eighth over when St Lucia captain Roston Chase produced a sensational burst. He dismissed Sunil Narine, Matthew Breetzke and Nicholas Pooran within just five deliveries.

Matthew Forde then ended Kieron Pollard’s aggressive 65-run innings. The St Lucia bowlers maintained relentless pressure throughout the chase and eventually restricted the Knight Riders to 175 runs.

With this victory, St Lucia Kings moved to eight points and became the second team in the tournament to reach that tally. The Kings will next face St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in Basseterre on September 3.
