Chennai, 27 August (H.S.)

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of A. Balakrishnan, president of the Vivekananda Kendra in Kanyakumari, describing him as an embodiment of Karma Yoga who devoted his entire life to national and social service.

In a joint condolence message, RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat and Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale said Balakrishnan worked tirelessly to spread Swami Vivekananda's message of universal brotherhood, service to humanity and commitment to the nation.

They said Balakrishnan's simple lifestyle, selfless service, spirit of sacrifice and unwavering devotion to Hindutva would continue to inspire generations of social workers and activists. His life, they noted, reflected the ideals of discipline, dedication and service that formed the foundation of the Vivekananda Kendra's activities.

Balakrishnan was among the first generation of lifelong dedicated volunteers, known as Jivan-Vratis, associated with the Vivekananda Kendra. As a full-time worker, he played an important role in advancing the organisation's mission and carrying Swami Vivekananda's teachings to different sections of society.

The RSS leaders said his contribution went beyond organisational responsibilities, as he remained deeply involved in efforts aimed at strengthening society and fostering a spirit of national unity. Through decades of dedicated work, Balakrishnan earned the respect of colleagues, volunteers and social activists across the country.

His death had deprived the country and society of a noble soul whose life was guided by service, sacrifice and spiritual commitment, the RSS said. The organisation observed that his ideals and example would remain an enduring source of strength for everyone working in the fields of national reconstruction and social welfare.

Bhagwat and Hosabale offered their humble tributes to Balakrishnan and conveyed condolences to members of the Vivekananda Kendra and his associates. They also prayed to the Almighty to grant the departed soul eternal peace, salvation and the ultimate abode.

The condolence message concluded with Om Shanti.
