Bhubaneswar, 27 August (H.S.) : Odisha Police conducted a special enforcement drive in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar on the night of August 26 as part of intensified efforts to prevent crime, ensure women’s safety, curb organised criminal activities and strengthen action against drugs and illicit liquor.

The drive was carried out in accordance with the directions of the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha, and focused on detecting and preventing illegal arms possession, illicit liquor trade, narcotics-related activities, other criminal offences, drunken driving and traffic violations.

The operation also involved intensified night patrolling, vehicle checking and field-level enforcement. A total of 336 Cadet Sub-Inspectors were deployed across the two cities, providing them with practical exposure to policing operations while supporting the enforcement exercise.

In Cuttack, police detected 90 cases of drunken driving and seized an equal number of vehicles, including 21 four-wheelers and 69 two-wheelers.

Police also detected two Excise cases and seized 35 litres of liquor. In addition, two cases involving modified silencers were detected and four mobile phones were recovered during the drive.

In Bhubaneswar, police registered 122 drunken-driving cases and seized 122 vehicles, comprising 49 four-wheelers, eight three-wheelers and 65 two-wheelers.

Traffic enforcement also resulted in the collection of ₹79,500 in fines under the Motor Vehicles/Orissa Urban Police provisions.

The Chandrasekharpur Police Station seized two sand-loaded Hywa trucks, while the Mancheswar Police Station detected two Excise cases and two cases involving modified silencers.

During intensified foot patrolling, Khandagiri Police Station personnel arrested three antisocial elements who were allegedly found consuming liquor at secluded locations.

The special drive was aimed at strengthening visible policing, improving road safety and preventing criminal and anti-social activities during night hours. The enforcement measures targeted drunken driving, illegal activities, modified vehicle silencers and other violations that can pose risks to public safety.

Odisha Police said such focused enforcement and field-oriented policing exercises will continue as part of its efforts to strengthen crime prevention, ensure safer roads and enhance the security of citizens across the state.
