Bhubaneswar, 27 August (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-North Odisha coasts around August 29, under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation.

According to the IMD, the cyclonic circulation, which was earlier located over south Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, now lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and north Odisha. It extends from around 3.1 km to 5.8 km above mean sea level and is tilting southwestwards with height.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the same region around August 29, potentially bringing another spell of widespread rainfall to Odisha.

The IMD has forecast rainfall across Odisha during the next three days and issued colour-coded warnings for several districts.
