New Delhi, 27 August (H.S.): The BRICS Summit will be held on September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. India is currently holding the BRICS chairmanship and will host the 18th BRICS Summit, which will be attended by the heads of state and government of BRICS member countries.

The Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday that India’s BRICS chairmanship will be guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The theme reflects a people-centric approach inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision of “Humanity First.”

In addition to deliberating on these priorities, the leaders will exchange views on strengthening cooperation within BRICS on shared priorities and share their perspectives on global and regional issues of mutual interest.

A series of programmes have been organised throughout the year under India’s chairmanship. The BRICS strategic partnership rests on three fundamental pillars — political and security cooperation, economic and financial cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. To further strengthen these pillars, more than 350 meetings and high-level deliberations have been organised across over 25 cities in India.

India is a founding member of BRICS and has previously held the group’s chairmanship three times, in 2012, 2016 and 2021. On January 1, 2026, India assumed the BRICS chairmanship for the fourth time.

The year 2026 marks a significant milestone for the grouping, as BRICS completes 20 years since its establishment.
