Jammu, 27 August (H.S.): Out of 100 first-year MBBS students at SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, 17 have failed to qualify the Internal Assessment and been declared ineligible to appear in the September 2026 annual examination in the affected subjects, with Physiology accounting for the highest number of cases.

According to a notice issued by the Controller Examinations, SKIMS, 22 students of the 1st Professional MBBS Batch 2025 have been declared Not Eligible to appear in the examination.

The students have been declared ineligible on the basis of their Attendance Reports and Internal Assessment results.

Of the 22 students, 17 have been declared ineligible for failing to qualify the Internal Assessment, while five have been declared ineligible because of shortage of attendance.

Three of those 17 students have been marked for both Internal Assessment and attendance deficiencies, which implies that attendance-related deficiencies affect eight students in all, while Internal Assessment deficiencies affect 17.

The cases involve Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, with Physiology accounting for the largest share.

The notice records 20 subject-wise Physiology cases among the 22 students declared ineligible.

Physiology is listed either as the sole subject of ineligibility or alongside Anatomy or Biochemistry in those 20 cases, while the remaining two cases involve Anatomy alone.

The reasons cited in the notice include Internal Assessment - Not Qualified, Shortage of Attendance and Shortage of attendance & Internal Assessment - Not Qualified.

Students whose ineligibility in Physiology is linked to attendance shortage have, however, been given a possible opportunity for reconsideration.

Those with an attendance shortage of up to 10 per cent in Physiology have been directed to attend remedial classes conducted by the College up to August 29, 2026.

After the remedial classes, the Head of the Department of Physiology has been asked to submit revised cumulative attendance covering both theory and practical components for determining the students' eligibility.

The provision allows students whose ineligibility is linked to attendance to have their eligibility reassessed on the basis of the revised attendance submitted by the department.

The notice does not provide a similar reconsideration mechanism for students who have failed to qualify the Internal Assessment. Their ineligibility therefore remains tied to the Internal Assessment result.
