
Imphal, 26 August (HS): Security forces in Manipur arrested six cadres of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) from different locations on August 25 and recovered UPPK-related documents, communication equipment and vehicles from their possession.
Special CDO teams arrested Elangbam Rabikumar Singh (24) from the Mantripukhri area. Three others, including Waikhom Arun Singh (20), Ahongshangbam Avinash Singh alias Andy (26) and a juvenile, were arrested from Khabam Leikai near Ibudhou Marjing Gate.
Elangbam Alexander Singh (21) was arrested from Pangei Bazar, while Phuritshabam Koireng Singh (51), a Mali of the Manipur Forest Department, was arrested from Koirengei Forest Gate.
Security forces seized 23 UPPK letterheads, a Baofeng handheld wireless set, a silver-coloured Astar car bearing registration number MN01 CS-2622 and a Pleasure two-wheeler bearing registration number MN06SE-7395.
According to the authorities, the arrested persons disclosed their involvement in activities including kidnapping, extortion and intimidation.
Meanwhile, a joint cordon-and-search operation by Manipur Police, CoBRA personnel of the CRPF and the Mahila Battalion of the CRPF was conducted at Taphou Kuki and Taphou Liangmai in Senapati district on August 25.
During the operation, security forces recovered two SBBL guns, 78 live 12-bore rounds, 11 empty 12-bore cases, empty cases of AK-47 and .22 ammunition, one 12-bore cartridge belt, one charger set, five vehicle registration plates and an empty steel military-surplus ammunition container.
The joint team also destroyed three bunkers during the operation—two at Taphou Kuki and one at Taphou Liangmai.-----------
