Murshidabad, 26 August (H.S.): Police from Lalbagola Police Station detained six Bangladeshi nationals during an operation in the Madhupur area near the India-Bangladesh border on Wednesday morning.

According to police sources, acting on specific information, personnel from Lalbagola Police Station conducted a search operation in the Madhupur area. During the operation, six people were found in suspicious circumstances and were detained for questioning.

The detained individuals have been identified as Rubel Sheikh (36) and Abul Halim (28) from Chapainawabganj district; Kabir Sheikh (31), Mizanur Rahman (34) and Rimon Ali (18) from Rajshahi district; and Aminul (39) from Manikganj district.

During preliminary questioning, the individuals allegedly told police that they had entered India from Bangladesh around a month ago. Police are now investigating the route through which they allegedly entered India and the circumstances surrounding their entry.

All six are currently being questioned at Lalbagola Police Station. According to police sources, they are likely to be sent to a holding centre as part of the subsequent legal process.

The detention of the six individuals has once again brought the issues of border security and alleged illegal entry into India into focus in the Lalbagola area, amid continued reports of Bangladeshi nationals being apprehended in the region.
