West Medinipur, 26 August (H.S.): Egra MLA Divyendu Adhikari conducted a surprise inspection of the Egra Super Speciality Hospital late Tuesday night. He was accompanied by Egra Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Karmaveer Keshav and the Inspector-in-Charge of Egra Police Station.
The sudden arrival of the MLA and senior administrative officials created a stir on the hospital premises. During the inspection, Adhikari interacted with patients admitted to the hospital and sought information about their treatment, medical services and the facilities available at the hospital.
Several instances of alleged mismanagement came to light during the inspection, following which the MLA reprimanded the hospital's Assistant Superintendent. He also sought explanations from the officials responsible for the hospital's functioning.
According to sources, the Assistant Superintendent had previously been reprimanded several times over the hospital's arrangements. Expressing displeasure over the lack of expected improvement despite repeated warnings, the MLA questioned the hospital authorities about the continued shortcomings.
Local residents said that despite repeated complaints regarding the hospital's functioning and reprimands by officials, there has been little visible improvement in the situation. The continued problems have raised questions over the functioning and management of the hospital administration.
