Lucknow, 26 Aug (HS): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national

president Mayawati has responded to the hijab controversy. She said that

instead of escalating such issues into legal disputes, they should be resolved

mutually with the help of school management and the government. Narrow

politics should not be used as a pretext.

Mayawati wrote in a lengthy post on the social media platform

X on Wednesday that Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar ensured unity and the creation of a

strong India by giving equal rights to people of all castes and religions

through a Constitution that guarantees unity and a strong India. Under this

Constitution, all religions have the right to live a peaceful and happy life

based on their scriptures, customs, and beliefs. Instead of ignoring or

interfering with this, everyone should respect its sanctity.

She further wrote that issues like women's dignity, respect,

and veils should be approached with sensitivity. Instead of making issues like

school uniforms, chadors, or hijabs into legal disputes in court, she argued,

they should be resolved through mutual understanding and prudence between

school management and the government, so that no one can exploit them for

narrow political use.

Mayawati also stated that the BSP is an Ambedkarite party

that guarantees the safety and respect of every community and believes that it

would be in the national and public interest if everyone refrained from

commenting on sensitive matters related to any religion, religious texts,

religious practices, and beliefs. She also demanded a swift resolution to the

ongoing controversy surrounding the Ambedkar statue in Badaun.
