New Delhi, 26 August (H.S.): Amid the situation arising from torrential rains and flash floods in Nepal, the Government of India is preparing to dispatch relief supplies at the earliest to assist people affected by the disaster.

Meanwhile, the Embassy of India in Nepal has issued emergency contact numbers to assist Indian nationals affected by the floods. Indian citizens can contact the embassy at +977 985 131 6807 and +977 970 910 7500.

On Wednesday, the Bhotekoshi River suddenly swelled in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, located near the country’s border with Tibet. Preliminary information suggests that a sudden surge of water in a glacier or an avalanche in the Tibetan region could have triggered the flooding. The deluge has caused damage to several villages, roads, bridges and hydropower projects.

According to local reports, at least eight to nine people have died in the incident, while more than 380 people are reported missing. Around 105 Indian nationals are also believed to be among those missing. The Indian Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and has activated communication channels to assist the families of affected Indian citizens.
