India’s passenger transport sector has achieved a significant milestone, with the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) issuing its first compliance certificate for a 15-metre-long multi-axle sleeper bus. The certification has been granted under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) and AIS-119 and AIS-153 standards.

The certificate was issued to Sinati Automotive Private Limited for its 15-metre-long sleeper bus, marking an important step towards the testing and certification of one of the longest bus configurations developed for passenger transportation.

ICAT Director Saurabh Dalela handed over the certificate to the company’s Managing Director Naresh Kumar Yadav in the presence of senior officials.

The bus has been specifically designed for long-distance travel and incorporates features including a robust structural design, emergency safety provisions and fire-safety systems. Passenger movement, convenience and comfort have also been taken into consideration. The full-sleeper variant is equipped with 42 berths, while the hybrid-sleeper version features 21 berths and 42 seats, offering passengers the flexibility of both seating and sleeping arrangements in a single vehicle during long journeys.

The bus underwent testing against prescribed requirements relating to safety, structural integrity, passenger convenience and comfort. The tests were conducted in accordance with applicable automotive standards and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.

The compliance certificate issued under AIS-119 and AIS-153 demonstrates ICAT’s capability to test and certify advanced passenger vehicles. It is also expected to assist vehicle manufacturers in meeting mandatory safety and other technical requirements.

ICAT Director Saurabh Dalela described the certification as a major achievement for the centre, highlighting its technical capabilities in testing and certifying advanced passenger vehicles. He said ICAT would continue to focus on passenger safety and technological advancement while supporting the Indian automobile industry in developing safe and reliable transportation solutions.

Sinati Automotive Managing Director Naresh Kumar Yadav expressed his gratitude to ICAT for the certification. He said the certification would strengthen the company’s efforts to develop safe, reliable and comfortable vehicles for long-distance passengers.

ICAT provides testing and certification services related to vehicle safety, regulatory compliance and emerging automotive technologies. The certification represents another significant step towards the development of safer and more advanced passenger vehicles in India.
