Howrah, 26 August (H.S.): Panic prevailed at Howrah Railway Station late Tuesday night after a man climbed onto a high pillar at the South Concourse of the station. Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Fire and Emergency Services were rushed to the spot following the incident.

According to railway sources, at around 11:15 pm, the man climbed onto a pillar located between platforms 5 and 3 of the South Concourse. He was initially suspected to be mentally unstable.

The RPF and GRP personnel immediately reached the spot and attempted to persuade him to come down. Considering the situation, the Fire and Emergency Services were also called in. After prolonged efforts and persuasion, firefighters managed to safely bring the man down at around 11:57 pm.

The man has been identified as Littu Lohra, 42, a resident of Nagjua village under Gaheraon police station in Lohardaga district of Jharkhand. His father has been identified as Mangal Lohra.

Railway and police officials are trying to ascertain the circumstances that led the man to climb the pillar. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
