New Delhi, 26 August (H.S.):

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday handed over approval letters to the first 2,500 women beneficiaries of the Delhi Laxmi Yojana. The financial assistance under the scheme will be credited directly to their bank accounts on September 1.

So far, 920,590 registrations have been recorded under the scheme, while 663,215 applications have been formally submitted. The launch event was held at Talkatora Stadium in the presence of Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Delhi government ministers Pravesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood and Kapil Mishra, along with several MPs and MLAs.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Gupta described the launch of the Delhi Laxmi Yojana as a historic beginning. She said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the commitment to women’s empowerment had today taken concrete shape by bringing new strength into the lives of women across Delhi. She said approval letters had been issued to the first 2,500 beneficiaries of the scheme.

“My sisters, your happiness is our happiness, your trust is our strength, and your blessings are our greatest asset,” Gupta said. She added that under the Prime Minister’s guidance, the Delhi government would continue working with complete dedication towards women’s dignity, self-reliance and a secure and brighter future.

Gupta said women remained at the centre of her government’s welfare agenda. She highlighted initiatives such as the Lakhpati, Free Bicycle and Pink Card schemes being implemented in Delhi for women’s welfare.

She also said that the government had spent its first year clearing the debt inherited from the previous administration. Despite this, she added, several new initiatives had been launched for the development of the national capital.

The Chief Minister said her government had fulfilled its commitment by allocating Rs 5,100 crore in the Budget for the Delhi Laxmi Yojana.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, addressing the launch event at Talkatora Stadium, said that empowering women strengthens the nation. He said the initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, would provide direct financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month to women, helping promote their dignity, self-reliance and economic security.

He described the scheme as a significant step towards making “Nari Shakti” the foundation of a modern, inclusive and empowered Delhi.

The Lieutenant Governor further said that ensuring a safe environment for women remained a priority. He added that, alongside measures aimed at making women financially independent, several initiatives were also being implemented to strengthen their safety and security.
