Guwahati, 26 August (HS): In a major relief for flood-affected and homeless people, Assam is set to receive more than 3.8 lakh new houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Under the housing scheme, an investment of around ₹5,000 crore has been earmarked for Assam. The initiative is expected to provide permanent shelter to a large number of families, particularly those affected by floods and other natural calamities.

The state will also receive an additional ₹139 crore for the development of the agriculture sector.

The announcements came during a meeting between Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The meeting focused on housing support, agricultural development and measures to strengthen assistance for people affected by floods and other challenges.------------
