
Guwahati, 26 August (HS): In a major crackdown on drug abuse, Basistha Police rescued 21 drug-addicted youths from Khanapara while they were allegedly consuming drugs and arrested two suspected drug peddlers.
The youths were reportedly found consuming drugs in Khanapara and were subsequently sent to rehabilitation centres for treatment and counselling.
Police also arrested two alleged drug peddlers, identified as Babul Ali and Rahul Islam. A total of 33 grams of suspected drugs were seized from their possession. According to police, the duo had allegedly been involved in drug peddling in the Khanapara area for a long time.
The crackdown comes amid growing concerns over drug abuse in the region. Recent incidents have also highlighted the serious health and social consequences associated with drug addiction, including concerns over the spread of HIV among drug users.

Basistha Police said that so far this year, 86 drug-addicted persons have been sent to rehabilitation centres as part of its efforts to curb drug abuse and help affected individuals recover.----------
