New Delhi, 25 August (H.S.):

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday approved the transfer of technologies developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for all conventional missile systems to Indian defence companies for domestic production.

The Defence Ministry described the decision as an important step towards increasing the participation of Indian industry in the country’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. The move is expected to facilitate the transition of missile technologies developed by DRDO from the research and development stage to industrial-scale production.

According to the ministry, the provision will enable Indian companies to utilise DRDO-developed technologies for manufacturing advanced defence systems within the country. It also reflects DRDO’s continued efforts to leverage the capabilities of domestic industry in the development and production of sophisticated defence equipment.

The decision is part of the government’s broader push to strengthen self-reliance in defence manufacturing and reduce dependence on imported military equipment. Greater involvement of domestic manufacturers is also expected to enhance India’s production capacity and encourage wider participation by the private sector and other Indian defence enterprises.

DRDO has been working closely with Indian industry to transfer technologies and accelerate the development and manufacture of indigenous defence systems. The organisation has transferred a large number of technologies to Indian companies under its technology-transfer framework, enabling industry partners to take up production based on technologies developed through government-backed research.
