Adityanath and other politicians pay regular tributes to the late Dom Raja

Jagdish Chaudhary, the beloved traditional goalkeeper of the holy cremation

flames at Varanasi's ghats. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

offered emotional respects to Padma Shri laureate Dom Raja Jagdish Chaudhary on

his death anniversary, remembering him as a real defender of Kashi's timeless traditions

and societal peace. He was the leader of Varanasi's Dom family and was

historically responsible for lighting the funeral pyres at the Manikarnika

Ghat.

In 2019, he was one of the proposers for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lok

Sabha nomination from the Varanasi constituency. In 2021, he received the

prestigious Padma Shri award posthumously for his outstanding contributions to

society.He died on August 25, 2020, after a protracted illness, prompting

widespread condolences from senior national and state authorities, including PM

Modi and Chief Minister Yogi.
