MLAs meet CM, demand restoring reservation in promotions

Jammu, 25 August (H.S.): A delegation of seven members of the Legislative Assembly today met Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah in Civil Secretariat, Srinagar and urged for restoration of reservation in promotions for the reserve category employees.

The delegation of the MLAs comprised of Dr. Bharat Bhushan, MLA Kathua, Dr. Rajeev Bhagat, MLA Bishnah, Dr. Devinder Manyal, MLA Ramgarh, Dr. Sunil Bharadwaj, MLA Ramnagar, Prof Gharu Ram Bhagat, MLA Suchetgarh, Surinder Kumar, MLA Marh and Mohan Lal, MLA, Akhnoor.

The MLAs apprised Chief Minister that reservation in promotions in respect of reserve category employees of J&K was stopped in the year 2015 and the aggrieved employees approached High Court, Supreme Court and CAT too in this regard.

Thousands of employees of reserved category have been debarred of promotional avenues because of arbitrary decision of the State Government.

The aggrieved employees fought for over a decade and the Supreme Court, High Court and even CAT has ruled that reservation in promotions be restored and even the circular issued by the General Administration Department banning reservation in promotions has been quashed. The MLA's apprised Chief Minister that there is no technical hitch now and reservation in promotion needs to be restored without further delay.
