Thiruvananthapuram, 25 August (H.S.): Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Tuesday extended Onam greetings to Malayalis across the world, describing the festival as a celebration that transcends divisions of caste and religion and brings people together in a spirit of unity.

In his Onam message, the Chief Minister said the festival inspires people to overcome adversity, strengthens their confidence and reminds them that they are not alone during difficult times. Every Onam celebration, he said, carries a message of hope, resilience and collective strength.

Satheesan noted that the hardships caused by natural disasters had not disappeared. However, he expressed hope that the celebrations would give affected families the courage and confidence required to rebuild their lives and move forward.

He wished that Malayalis everywhere would be able to set aside their worries and difficulties and celebrate Onam with their families, friends and loved ones. The festival, he said, should bring happiness while providing renewed strength for the journey ahead.

The Chief Minister also said the State government had made all necessary arrangements to ensure that people could celebrate Onam without being severely affected by rising prices. Measures had been taken to make essential commodities available and ease the financial burden on households during the festive season.

Warning against attempts to create divisions in society by spreading hatred and hostility, Satheesan urged Malayalis to reject such efforts and remain united. He said certain forces were seeking to benefit by promoting discord among communities.

At a time when divisive tendencies were becoming increasingly visible, people must uphold Kerala’s tradition of communal harmony and social solidarity, he said.

“Standing together is the message of Onam,” the Chief Minister said, urging people to rise above caste and religious differences. He expressed hope that this year’s Thiruvonam would fill every home with peace, prosperity, joy and optimism.
