New Delhi, 25 August (H.S.): Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal, citing a NITI Aayog report on unemployment, accused the Central government of pushing the country's youth towards joblessness. He claimed that 8.7 crore young people in the country are unemployed and that only 8.25 per cent of them possess employable skills.

In a post on social media platform X on Tuesday, Venugopal said this was the reality of the government's “Amrit Kaal”, which, he claimed, was being exposed through the voices of students echoed by Rahul Gandhi. He said this was the reason the Congress' efforts were receiving widespread public support.

Venugopal alleged that the government had promised “acche din” after 2014 but had betrayed the country's youth, turning India's demographic dividend into a demographic crisis.

He said government policies had worsened the situation in education and employment. Describing them as policies directed against the country's youth, Venugopal said the Congress was building a mass movement that would ultimately lead to the government's downfall.
