New Delhi, 25 August (H.S.): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed grief over the tragic death of Rishikesh, an M.Sc. student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, and called for a fair and time-bound investigation into the matter.

In a post on social media platform X on Tuesday, Kejriwal said he was deeply saddened by Rishikesh's tragic death at IIT Delhi. He said the matter should be investigated fairly within a stipulated timeframe and that all concerns raised by students should be addressed.

Kejriwal said more than 65 IIT students had died by suicide over the past five years, describing the situation as deeply concerning. He said the country takes pride in the academic excellence of the IITs, but the meaning of excellence cannot be confined to rankings, grades and placements alone.

Kejriwal said there was a need to ensure that every student could access support when required. Students should have someone who would listen to them and should be provided with a safe and trustworthy environment in which they could seek assistance during difficult circumstances, he said.

He said the entire system needed introspection and necessary reforms. Students, he added, should never be left feeling hopeless under any circumstances.
