Guwahati, 25 August (HS): The flood situation in Assam is gradually improving as water levels recede in several parts of the state. However, the crisis continues in Sivasagar, Cachar, Golaghat, Jorhat and Nagaon districts, where 19,210 people in 91 villages remain affected.

According to the latest data released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), all major rivers are currently flowing below the danger mark. The death toll in this year's floods has reached 106. Flooding continues across 10 revenue circles in the five affected districts, with around 3,109.39 hectares of agricultural land still submerged.

The state government has kept 16 relief facilities operational, including five relief camps and 11 relief distribution centres. A total of 159 people are currently taking shelter in relief camps, while 12,505 non-camp residents are receiving relief from distribution centres. The number of flood-affected livestock was recorded at 17,648 on Monday.

According to damage assessment data for August 24, Sivasagar district reported 175 fully damaged kucha houses, 20 fully damaged pucca houses, 298 partially damaged kutcha houses and 194 damaged pucca houses. The district also reported damage to 25 other huts and 145 cattle sheds.

Relief materials distributed among affected people included 212.788 quintals of rice, 37.506 quintals of pulses, 11.2458 quintals of salt and 102.69 litres of mustard oil.

The state government is also assessing extensive damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure caused by the floods. Various departments are conducting regular review meetings and taking necessary measures to provide financial assistance and relief materials to affected people.----------
