25 Aug (HS): The fire audit of more than 90 hospitals in Amravati are outdated.

The renewable notices issued by the Municipal Corporation have been ignored by

them. The fact came to light after the incident in Hospital for Women Child

(Duffrin Hospital).

Under the

jurisdiction of Amravati Municipal Corporation 246 hospitals are registered, of

which only fire audit report of 156 hospitals are valid, The renewal of 90 hospitals

are pending. Shockingly those who have not renewed the audit include three

government hospitals – District Government Hospital (Irvin), District Women and

Child Hospital (Duffrin), and Government Super Speciality Hospital and other

private hospitals.

The issue

is related to fire-fighting equipment, fire alarm, fire exist ways and other

security measures. The Fire Fighting equipment installed are outdated (expired

validity). The issues are related to the lives of the people who approach the

hospitals for better health services and a cheaper rate.

The

government is expected to take stern action against the guilty and ensure steps

to carry out proper fire audit instead of only issuing notices.

CS Expresses Concern: The District Civil Surgeon and

Officiating Medical Superintendent Dr Vino Pawar has expressed discontent over negligence

over the authorities in carrying out fire audit and inspection of other

facilities. The PWD is also allowed operation of the hospital without verifying

completion of work with all security measures, including fire safety,

sprinklers and other firefighting measures
