Kolkata, 25 August (H.S.): A complaint has been lodged against Bengali actor and former Trinamool Congress MLA Soham Chakraborty, alleging that he assaulted a carpenter. Police said on Tuesday that the complainant, Rajkapur Sharma, filed a written complaint at Behala police station on Monday, following which an investigation has been initiated.

According to the complaint, Rajkapur Sharma was hired on May 12 to make cupboards at Soham Chakraborty’s residence in the Behala area of south Kolkata. A contract worth Rs 55,000 was agreed upon, and he was paid an advance of Rs 30,000. After around 80 per cent of the work was completed, he was also assigned the task of making two additional cupboards. Rajkapur alleged that around 50 per cent of the additional work had also been completed, but he did not receive any further payment.

According to the complainant, he went to the actor’s residence on Monday to seek payment of his outstanding dues. A security guard of Soham had allegedly called him on Sunday and asked him to come to the residence.

Rajkapur alleged that after reaching the house on Monday, he was made to wait for a long time and was told that his payment would be made. When he eventually asked about the outstanding amount, he was allegedly subjected to verbal abuse.

In his complaint, Rajkapur alleged that Soham Chakraborty and his bodyguard, Toton Sardar, abused him, threatened to kill him and took away his mobile phone. He further alleged that he was assaulted and pushed out of the house.

Following the incident, Rajkapur went to Behala police station and lodged a written complaint against the actor, alleging assault and other offences.

Police said an investigation has been launched based on the complaint. However, no response from Soham Chakraborty was available in connection with the allegations at the time of filing this report.

Notably, Soham Chakraborty has faced allegations in other controversies in the past. In July last year, he was accused of allegedly cheating a businessman of Rs 68 lakh, issuing death threats and criminal breach of trust. Sheikh Shahid Imam, a businessman from Arambagh in Hooghly district and head of ‘Sonam Movies’, had lodged a complaint against the actor at Charu Market police station in Tollygunge, south Kolkata.

Earlier, while serving as an MLA, Soham had also faced allegations of a dispute, threats and assault involving employees of a city restaurant during a film shoot.
