Kolkata, 24 August (H.S.): A 46-year-old woman died after a tree suddenly fell on her at the SSKM Hospital premises in Kolkata on Monday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Rahida Bibi, a resident of Nalhati in Birbhum district.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred outside the Trauma Care Building when a tree suddenly broke and fell. Rahida Bibi was reportedly standing underneath the tree at the time and became trapped beneath it. She is believed to have died on the spot. She was reportedly a relative of a patient admitted to the hospital.

Bhawanipore Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. The police took the body into custody and initiated the process of sending it for post-mortem examination. An investigation is also underway to determine the circumstances that led to the sudden fall of the tree.

Tree-falling incidents are frequently reported in Kolkata during periods of heavy rain and strong winds. Several such incidents have been reported in different parts of the city this year, with two deaths also reported in connection with falling trees.

However, there was no report of any major storm or strong squall in Kolkata on Monday when the incident occurred. As of the time of filing this report, the hospital administration and police had not provided detailed information regarding the exact cause of the tree falling.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
