Hojai, August 24 (HS): A large herd of wild elephants narrowly escaped a major train accident in Hojai district after timely intervention by the Forest Department. The incident occurred at night when the herd ventured towards Habaipur in search of food.

The elephants became stranded on the railway tracks at the time when the up-bound Rajdhani Express and a down-bound goods train were approaching Habaipur.

Forest Department officials and personnel acted swiftly after spotting the herd and alerted railway authorities. Both trains were stopped urgently, preventing a potentially serious collision and saving the lives of the elephants.

The prompt action and vigilance of the Forest Department once again helped avert a major human-wildlife conflict and protected the wild elephant herd from a tragic accident.----------
