Chennai , 24 August (H.S.):The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will reconvene on Monday after the weekend to debate demands for grants concerning six key departments, including one held by Chief Minister Joseph Vijay.

The House will assemble at 9.30 a.m., with ruling and Opposition members expected to examine spending, policies and the implementation of government schemes.

The discussions will cover Municipal Administration and Water Supply; Information, Publicity, Stationery and Printing; School Education; Tamil Development; and Higher Education.

Vijay, who holds the Municipal Administration and Water Supply portfolio in addition to serving as Chief Minister, will respond to issues raised during the debate. His reply is expected to draw attention because the department oversees key civic services, major drinking water projects and urban development across the State.

Information, Publicity and School Education Minister Rajmohan and Higher Education Minister Viswanathan will also respond to the debate concerning their departments.

The ministers are expected to unveil new schemes and policy initiatives after addressing the concerns raised by legislators.

The 2026-27 general Budget was presented in the Assembly on August 5, while the Agriculture Budget was tabled the following day. A three-day debate on the Budgets was held on August 7, 10 and 11.

The discussion concluded on August 12 with replies from Finance Minister Maria Wilson and Agriculture Minister Vinod. The Assembly was subsequently adjourned for four days in connection with Independence Day.

Department-wise discussions on demands for grants began after the House resumed on August 17. The grant demands of 18 departments have been debated so far during the current session.

The Assembly remained closed on August 22 and 23 as they fell on Saturday and Sunday. Following Monday's ministerial replies, the demands for grants will be placed before the House for approval. Opposition members are likely to question the government on funding, project execution and the delivery of public services.
