New Delhi, 24 August (H.S.): The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Jharkhand government on a plea seeking an independent Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) 2025 examination. During the hearing, Chief Justice Surya Kant observed that the Jharkhand Public Service Commission also conducts the judicial services examination, adding that the court was concerned about the issue.

The petition was filed by social activist Harisharan Devgan, seeking an independent CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities in the JPSC 2025 examination. Filed through advocate Satyam Singh Rajput, the petition seeks the transfer of the investigation from the Jharkhand Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to the CBI.

The plea has urged the appointment of an investigating agency that is independent of the state government’s influence so as to maintain public confidence in the investigation.

The controversy relates to the JPSC preliminary examination held on April 19. The results were declared on July 2. Following the announcement of the results, a copy of an examinee’s OMR sheet went viral on social media. The sheet reportedly showed that the candidate had attempted only 48 out of 100 questions but had nevertheless qualified for the next stage.

The Jharkhand Public Service Commission has also faced criticism over its decision to select TSDPL for conducting the examination. TSDPL had reportedly been blacklisted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission only a few months before the JPSC examination following complaints of irregularities.

The Supreme Court’s notice seeks the Jharkhand government’s response to the plea for transferring the investigation to the CBI and conducting an independent probe into the alleged examination irregularities.
