Bhubaneswar, 24 August (H.S.): A team of women mountaineers from Odisha who successfully scaled the 6,111-metre-high Mount Yunam in Himachal Pradesh met Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati at Lok Bhavan on Monday.

During the meeting, the Governor congratulated all members of the team on their achievement and extended his best wishes for their future endeavours. He also interacted with the mountaineers and discussed the challenges they faced and their experiences during the expedition.

Of the 11 members of the expedition team, five successfully reached the summit of Mount Yunam, while six had to return midway due to health-related issues.

Describing the achievement as a matter of immense pride and honour for Odisha, Governor Kambhampati expressed hope that the feat would inspire more women to take up mountaineering and other adventure sports.

The Governor also appreciated the team members for their determination, courage and enthusiasm and wished them a bright and successful future.

Vice-President of the Association for Adventure and Social Activities (AASA), Haresh Kumar Mishra, and the organisation’s Secretary and mountaineer Ganesh Chandra Jena were also present during the meeting.
