Mumbai, 24 Aug (HS): About 40 people were

hospitalised after leakage of chlorine gas from stored cylinders occurred in a

water treatment plant. The incident occurred last night in Faguji Nagar, under

Godhni Nagar Panchayat in Nagpur.

Nagpur’s Fire Brigade, team of NDRF, Police and

other security personnel rushed to the site and sealed area within 200 meter

radius of the plant. Villagers noticed gas leakage around 12.30 am and spread

in the area. About 40 people feeling uncomfortable were admitted to Mayo

Hospital, Max Hospital and Sparsh Hospital in Nagpur. Three of the affected

people were shifted to Intensive Care Unit.

The Health Department personnel are enquiring about

health of people in the region through home visits. The NDRF team was engaged

in plugging the gas leakage.

None of the staff was present during the night, raising

questions about security of the plant.
