Guwahati, 24 August (HS): The Railway authorities carried out an eviction drive at Bamunimaidam Railway Colony in Guwahati, demolishing around 40 illegally constructed houses with bulldozers.

The houses had allegedly been built illegally on Railway land, where people had been residing for a long time. Most of the occupants were reportedly former Railway employees.

The Railway department had issued eviction notices to the occupants around 10 days ago. The demolition drive was subsequently carried out as part of the department’s action to clear encroachments from its land.------------
