South 24 Parganas, 24 August (H.S.): Tension has gripped the North Tengrabedia area under Baruipur Police Station following the death of 45-year-old BJP worker Bapi Pramanik. The victim’s family has alleged that he was called out of his home over the phone as part of a conspiracy and was subsequently attacked with sharp weapons. Police, however, said the incident occurred during a clash between two groups over the formation of a local puja committee.

According to police, an argument broke out between the two groups over the formation of the puja committee, which later escalated into a physical altercation. Several people, including Bapi Pramanik, sustained injuries in the clash. As his condition deteriorated, he was taken to a hospital, but he died on the way.

The victim’s family claimed that Bapi had been an active BJP worker for several years and had allegedly been forced to stay away from home for nearly a decade due to his political activities. The family has alleged that the attack was carried out under the leadership of a local BJP leader and has also alleged the involvement of alleged Trinamool Congress supporters. These allegations have not been independently verified.

Following the incident, additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent any further escalation. Baruipur Police District Additional Superintendent of Police Atish Biswas said on Monday that a clash had taken place between two groups in the Tengrabedia area over the formation of a puja committee. Bapi Pramanik sustained serious injuries during the clash and died while being taken to hospital.

Police said an investigation has been launched based on a written complaint filed by the victim’s family. Several people have been detained for questioning, while raids are being conducted to locate other suspects.

Police said the situation in the area is currently under control and security has been intensified to prevent any fresh outbreak of violence.
