Lucknow, 24 Aug (HS): A political storm developed in Uttar

Pradesh between the BJP and the Congress when a video leaked showing fish being

fried at an event in Ayodhya to welcome UP Congress head Ajay Rai. The issue

grew since the event occurred during Sawan. After prayers in Hanumangarhi, the

Nishad community in Ayodhya's Tarun neighborhood arranged a welcome gathering

for Ajay Rai and other Congress officials. Yogi Adityanath and BJP leaders

slammed videos showing fish preparations at the event, claiming they offended

Hindu religious emotions and violated Sanatan customs during Sawan.

Ajay Rai denied consuming fish at the gathering, urged the BJP to present

proof, and accused the governing party of insulting the Nishad community’s

customs. Congress leaders kept food organized according to local community

customs, and people have constitutional freedom regarding their particular

dietary choices.

Meanwhile, politics in Uttar Pradesh has heated up over the

food served during Congress state president Ajay Rai's event in Ayodhya.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state spokesperson Alok Awasthi has launched a

scathing attack on the Congress leadership over the controversy. He accused the

Congress of insulting Sanatan Dharma.

BJP state spokesperson Alok Awasthi said on Monday that

organising fish-rice feast to welcome state Congress president Ajay Rai in a

holy religious city like Ayodhya in the holy month of Sawan is going to hurt

religious sentiments.

Citing Rahul Gandhi's visit to Patna, Alok Awasthi said that

Rahul Gandhi, influenced by Western culture, especially Italian civilization,

himself cooked and ate meat at Lalu Prasad Yadav's residence in Patna during

the month of Sawan. When the party's top leadership is doing this, why wouldn't

the state president follow suit?

The BJP spokesperson bluntly alleged that disrespecting the

traditions and beliefs of Sanatan Dharma has now become a regular practice of

the Congress party. He said that disregarding the sanctity of holy months and

pilgrimage sites reflects the Congress culture.
