Guwahati, 24 August (HS): Flood conditions in Assam are gradually improving, while authorities continue to assess the extent of damage across the affected districts. According to the latest data compiled by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Sivasagar has reported the highest number of damaged houses.

During the latest assessment, 384 houses in Sivasagar were reported completely damaged, while 831 houses suffered partial damage. The government has assured that necessary steps will be taken to compensate affected families after completion of the damage assessment.

According to ASDMA data for August 23, floodwaters are currently affecting five districts—Cachar, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Nagaon and Jorhat. A total of 98 villages across 10 revenue circles remain affected, with 15,875 people impacted. Around 3,212.93 hectares of agricultural land are still submerged.

Five relief camps remain operational, providing shelter to 162 people. The cumulative flood-related death toll in the state stands at 106.

Sivasagar recorded 219 fully damaged kucha houses and 165 fully damaged pucca houses. In addition, 355 kucha and 476 pucca houses were reported partially damaged. The district also reported damage to 32 other huts and 191 cattle sheds.

As part of ongoing relief and rescue operations, 18 medical teams were deployed in flood-affected areas on Sunday. A total of 8,383 animals were also reported affected, including 3,865 large animals, 2,384 small animals and 2,134 poultry birds.

The state government is continuing to assess damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure in the affected areas. Relief materials and financial assistance are also being provided to affected people as authorities work towards rehabilitation and restoration.----------
