(HS): Three infants died in a blast Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of

Amravati District Government Hospital around 3.30 am on Monday, six others in

the NICU were immediately shifted to the Super Speciality Hospital.

According to

preliminary reports, the blast occurred in a ventilator in the NICU on the

third floor of the hospital. At the time of the blast 39 infants are being

treated in the unit.

The modern NICU

was started last year. The blast led to a fire in the unit which was

immediately brought under control. The blast in a ventilator within one year,

raised several questions about safety of patients and fire safety system in the

hospital.
