New Delhi, 23 August (H.S.):
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) has achieved a significant milestone by securing ISO 55001:2024 certification for its asset management system for Mumbai Metro Line-3. With this achievement, DMRC has become the first metro organisation in the country to be certified in accordance with the latest international standard for asset management. The information was shared through a statement issued on Sunday.
DMRC is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the 33.5-kilometre-long Mumbai Metro Line-3 corridor, which connects Colaba, Bandra and SEEPZ. Its responsibilities include the safe and efficient management of several critical assets, including rolling stock, traction systems, signalling, telecommunications, stations, lifts, escalators, tracks and civil infrastructure.
According to the statement, the achievement goes beyond merely obtaining a certification and reflects a significant advancement in the management of metro assets—from preventive maintenance towards a more strategic, risk-based and life-cycle-oriented approach to asset management.
Under ISO 55001:2024, asset management is not confined to maintenance alone. Instead, it integrates asset performance, risks, costs and long-term life-cycle considerations with an organisation’s overall objectives. This approach is expected to enhance the reliability and availability of assets while enabling more efficient utilisation of resources and improving long-term cost-effectiveness.
