Jammu, 23 August (H.S.): Jammu & Kashmir has achieved a historic milestone in fencing, with Shriya Gupta and Vishal Thappar earning selection to represent India at the Asian Games 2026.

For the first time, two sabre fencers from Jammu & Kashmir have secured the honour of competing at the continental sporting extravaganza, marking a significant breakthrough for fencing in the Union Territory.

Shriya Gupta has been selected for both the individual and team events, while Vishal Thappar will represent India in the team event.

The Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council extended its heartfelt congratulations to both athletes, describing their selection as a reflection of their exceptional talent, hard work, discipline and determination.

The Sports Council also acknowledged the contribution of their coaches and support teams, whose sustained efforts played a crucial role in helping the fencers reach the international stage.

The historic achievement has brought immense pride to Jammu & Kashmir, with the two athletes now set to carry the hopes and aspirations of the region as they represent India at the Asian Games 2026.

The Sports Council wished Shriya Gupta and Vishal Thappar every success in their international campaign and expressed confidence that they would make J&K and the country proud.
