Bhubaneswar, 23 August (H.S.): The Odisha Government has reorganised the pharmacist cadre after 39 years, Health Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling said, highlighting a series of measures aimed at strengthening the state’s healthcare system and addressing the long-standing demands of pharmacists.

Mahaling made the remarks while attending the one-day annual conference of the Odisha Pharmacy Officers’ Service Association at Rama Devi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar.

The Health Minister said pharmacists play an important role in strengthening healthcare delivery across the state. He said the government has taken steps to fulfil the long-pending demands of pharmacists in a phased manner.

“After 39 years, the pharmacist cadre has been reorganised,” Mahaling said. A responsibility chart outlining the duties of pharmacists has also been prepared, he added.

According to the Minister, around 300 pharmacists have already been appointed in the state, while arrangements are being made for the recruitment of another 1,108 pharmacists.

He further said the state government is also considering the demand for implementation of the Pharmacist Council of India Recruitment and Promotion Service–2025 in Odisha.

Mahaling said Odisha’s healthcare sector has been further strengthened under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Skilled human resources, improved healthcare infrastructure and modern systems, he said, are helping make patient care more accessible, streamlined and efficient.
